Green Campaigners rejoice as orchards are saved!

The secretary of state for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities decided the fate of 126 acres of prime agricultural land in Rainham.  Michael Gove agreed with the Planning Inspectorate's recommendations that the appeal should be dismissed.

Green campaigner Kate Belmonte began working with fellow Twydall and Rainham residents in July 2019 and has spearheaded the campaign to save the orchards.  "I am utterly delighted that common sense and justice has prevailed in the midst of vast quantities of money, the community has been outstanding in their commitment and passion to the campaign and my thanks goes to everyone for the contributions both in time and money.  My fellow steering group members have been amazing and have really shown what can be achieved when we work together.  My thanks also goes to Medway Council whom on this occasion fought against the plans and worked hard for our residents."

Whilst campaigners should enjoy this success we must not forget that Medway is still under threat from predatory housing developers and their are many other communities in need of out continued support not least on the Hoo Peninsula and in Lidsing.
