Dear Cllr Jarrett,

There has been very considerable, widespread, public outrage at the shooting of a buzzard on the RSPB reserve at High Halstow following the report in the KM on Monday 16 November 2020.

As you have been a wildfowler for over forty years and are currently the Chairman of 'Bird Wise' but also the Chair of Kent Wildfowlers, in addition to being the Leader of Medway Council, we would very much appreciate your comments on what the public regard as, a despicable act of mindless aggression.

'Bird Wise' otherwise known as the North Kent 'Strategic Access Management and Monitoring Scheme' was set up to protect the birds of the North Kent Marshes. Can you advise on what measures will be taken to prevent birds being killed for pleasure in the future, especially those which are awarded legal protection?

Yours sincerely,

Cllr Marilyn Stone

Hello Marilyn,

Thank you for your email.

We are all appalled by the shooting of the buzzard, and will all continue to work hard to ensure that such illegality as this is stamped out.

Regards

Alan
