The Green Party will end badger culling and support real solutions to the spread of disease in our countryside.
Badger culling doesn’t work. Thousands upon thousands of badgers are being killed for no reason whatsoever.
The Conservatives support the badger cull because they say it will prevent the spread of bovine TB in cows. However, there is very little evidence to support this claim.
The UK first trialed badger culling in 1998. It didn’t work. The results showed that badger culling is an inhumane and ineffective way to protect farmers’ livelihoods. In 2013, another independent panel found that culls were ‘ineffective and inhumane’.
Nonetheless, the Conservatives made the badger cull an election promise, and badger culling began in 2013. Since then, around 15,000 badgers have been killed across our countryside, with the cull expanding every year.
The Government is pushing one of Britain’s most beloved animals to the point of extinction and for no good reason.
Badgers are not to blame for the spread of disease. The cull is inhumane and ineffective.
It must be stopped.
