This is the first time Green candidates have stood in all three of Medway's constituencies and helps show the considerable progress we have made.
The Kent Green Party is now standing a record number of candidates - 10 - in the general election. If you would like to see a list of all the Kent Green Party general election candidates, please visit the Kent Green Party web site.
Simon Marchant: Green Party Parliamentary Candidate for Rochester and Strood
Simon was born and bred in Chatham, growing up in Luton and attending Walderslade School for Boys and Mid Kent College. Simon now lives in Gillingham and is a house husband. Simon has stood for local election in Medway and, as well as being the candidate for Rochester and Strood, is the branch coordinator for Medway Green Party. He is active in local campaigning and is a member of Kingsnorth Climate Action Medway and of the Medway Waste Forum. He also supports many charities including the Woodland Trust, Soil Association, RSPB and Ethical Consumer.
Simon is very knowledgeable about the science and technical aspects of modern living, and because of this knowledge is opposed to nuclear power and extremely concerned that nowhere near enough is being done to tackle climate change. He is also opposed to the degradation of our civil liberties and rights to anonymity and privacy and is against ID cards and biometric passports as he believes they do not enhance security but merely catalogue people.
Simon has recorded a short video message about his candidacy on the Winkball web site.
Trish Marchant: Green Party Parliamentary Candidate for Gillingham and Rainham
Trish has been an environmentalist for many years and active in the Green Party for the last six years. She grew up in Gillingham, attending the local grammar school and Mid Kent College before going to Lanchester Polytechnic (now Coventry University) in the 80's. She subsequently studied through the Open University and is now a Chartered Engineer having gained an honours degree in Electrical Engineering. Trish has worked in both the private and public sector, predominantly in the water industry, and currently in the energy and environment team at Medway Hospital. She is a member of the RSPB, WWF, Friends of the Earth and Sustrans to name a few, and also supports a number of local voluntary groups including being an activist in Kingsnorth Climate Action Medway and Chair of the Medway Waste Forum.
Trish regularly contributes to the press, attends council meetings, has stood in the local elections for Boxley ward and has publicly spoken about her encounters with the police while at Climate Camp. She strongly believes that the Green Party's robust environmental strategy is no more or less important than the party's social and economic policies and that the Green Party can make a real difference in the lives of the most vulnerable sectors in society.
Trish has recorded a short video message about her candidacy on the Winkball web site.
David Arthur: Green Party Parliamentary Candidate for Chatham and Aylesford
David has been a member of the Green party since 2001. Over the years
since he joined the party, he has become increasingly aware and concerned about the lack of sustainability in both politics and society.
Even the "Big Three" political parties are finally accepting the reality of some of the policies the Green party has been offering for decades.
David believes that openly caring about society, the UK and the environment is an essential quality that makes him ideal to stand as a parliamentary candidate for the Green Party in the constituency of Chatham and Aylesford.
David is currently a mature student in his first year of studying a degree in Sustainable Land Management. He is 38 years old, lives with his partner and has lived within the Chatham and Aylesford constituency for the last 11 years.
David has recorded a short video message about his candidacy on the Winkball web site.
The next local council elections in Medway are in May 2011.
