Rainbow Warrior Visits Medway to Stop Coal

Simon Marchant

The campaign to stop a new coal fired power station being built at Kingsnorth has reached a new peak with the arrival of the Greenpeace vessel, the Rainbow Warrior. It is a reflection of the global threat that the push for coal represents, that the vessel has come here for the first time in 10 years.

MP's, councillors and representatives of local NGOs, pressure groups and political parties were all invited, and most attended. Also aboard was Edith East,a Green Party and Greenpeace member, amongst many organisations,

who was celebrating her 81st birthday.

Having been taken aboard on inflatable craft, on what started as a cold wet day, we were treated to a very comfortable and informative day.

On the trip out to the estuary we were given a presentation by Geoff Meaden on the effects of climate change on Kent. Which would see us lose us at least 20% of our land by 2200.
